300 take part in cost-effective, 4-day virtual Pacific battle
From left, U.S. Navy Lt. Justin Sheppard, Cmdr. Michael Noonan and Capt. Greg Keithley, from Third Fleet stationed at San Diego, coordinate naval support in the Maritime Operating Center, or MOC, during Virtual Flag 11-1 hosted by the 705th Combat Training Squadron, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. More than 300 Joint warfighters at 18 locations from Japan to England converged in a virtual battlespace over the Pacific for a four-day exercise ending Dec. 16. With a price tag of $2 million it would cost 20 times that for a similar exercise with live aircraft, according to a recent 705th CTS study. (U.S. Air Force photo)
