CSAF Letter to Airmen on Standards

Fellow Airmen,

Earlier this month I released a video explaining why our service is reviewing certain policies and standards to ensure they are easy to understand, easy to comply with, and easy to enforce across our entire Air Force. Today, I am following through on my promise to swiftly distribute updates.

As my Follow Through memorandum states, we must renew our commitment to a culture of adherence to standards with shared “First Principles.” The changes outlined in the Update to DAFI 36-2903 memorandum serve as the first update to guidance for Air Force personnel and is effective Feb. 1, 2025. The attached Guidance Memorandum codifies these updates. Finally, the Air Force Surgeon General released updated Medical Guidance for Shaving Profiles to Military Treatment Facilities. In addition to reading these four documents, I encourage all of you to review the videos below, which offer additional background and context on the updates.

Air Force Standards Update – Shaving Profiles, Air Force Surgeon General Lt. Gen. John DeGoes

As you review the memoranda and take action to ensure compliance, never forget that discipline and accountability are, and always will be, the backbone of an effective and lethal fighting force. Complying with and enforcing standards demonstrates shared commitment to our winning team, as well as an understanding of the gravity of our profession in today’s volatile security environment.

Thank you for your dedication to our Air Force and to our nation.
