Volunteers in the 505th Command and Control Wing held a month-long donation drive for the Waterfront Rescue Mission in Fort Walton Beach.

On March 4, volunteers delivered two truckloads of canned goods, clothing, blankets, hygiene products and even a wheelchair.

"It's our way of giving back to the community that supports us so generously," said Master Sgt. Donna Hustad, who coordinated the effort. "It feels good to help those less fortunate; to share your blessings."

Sergeant Hustad said the idea came about after viewing news stories about the recent cold snap in the area and the poor economy.

"(The Mission)" is taking care of more and more families," she said. "I know the efforts of our wing personnel will go to help some of those families and hopefully make a difference."

Wing members volunteer their time and services to a number of activities and programs in the community, including Meals on Wheels and the Adopt-a-County-Road program.
