First Lt. Chris Costello, 705th Combat Training Squadron, was recently named Air Combat Command's Outstanding Scientist/Engineer of the Year for 2009 in the junior military category.

Lieutenant Costello led the largest Congressionally-mandated missile defense experiment, analyzing testing of assets valued over $300 million, and supported the U.S. Air Force Weapons School by validating dynamic targeting techniques, tactics and procedures, among many other amazing and innovative accomplishments this past year.

"Lieutenant Costello was involved in developing network architecture and network security for Coalition Virtual Flag," said Lt. Col. Daniel Pepper, 705th Combat Training Squadron commander. "It was a monumental task that took 16 months of preparation."
He also integrated 24 sites around the world and led Northern Edge integration tests, enabling the largest DoD Live-Virtual-Constructive exercise to date.
