JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The Air Force Accessions Center (AFAC) held a change of command ceremony here July 18, as Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Nelson assumed command from Brig. Gen. Christopher Amrhein.
Lt. Gen. Brian S. Robinson, commander of Air Education and Training Command, presided over the ceremony, which marked the first transition of leadership for the Air Force’s premier recruiting and accessions training organization, which became operational in December 2024.
As the inaugural commander, Amrhein successfully stood up AFAC, merging the Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS), and Air University’s Jeanne Holm Center in a strategic move to streamline all pathways to Air Force and Space Force service. As the dual-hatted commander of AFAC and AFRS he led AFRS through a critical period for the Department of the Air Force’s recruitment.
During Amrhein’s command, AFRS implemented several key initiatives such as medical processes, robust training and goaling methodologies, innovative partnerships, and community outreach and marketing campaigns that contributed to AFAC achieving Fiscal 2025 recruiting goals three months early.
Now commander, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W. Nelson, was the Director of Operations and Communications for Headquarters AETC at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. In his previous role, he oversaw the world's largest training organization, which provided initial skills, flying, combat crew, and supplemental training for over 300,000 Air Force, joint, and international personnel across 65 Air Force and Department of Defense locations.
AFAC is headquartered at JBSA-Randolph, and oversees officer training school, warrant officer training school and junior and reserve officer training corps, under one organization to oversee recruitment, officer accessions and citizen development.
