PACAF Band Revisits Sendai
Members of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific-Asia pose with residents of Kabanomachi, a coastal town near Sendai city, Japan, in the Kabanomachi Elementary School gymnasium, on Aug. 11, 2024. A tsunami struck the eastern coast of Japan in the aftermath of a 9.0 earthquake on March 11, 2011, causing 19,759 deaths and severe damage, with the U.S. Department of Defense responding with a massive relief effort known as “Operation Tomodachi” to aid the affected citizens. The band participated in the operation and performed throughout affected areas to include Kabanomachi, and the band returned to perform again in 2024 to honor those lost in the disaster.
